The Downtown Dig encompasses comprehensive upgrades to both underground and surface infrastructure:
Underground Utilities: Replacement of outdated water mains, storm and sanitary sewers, and utility services

  • Roadway Reconstruction: Full-depth reconstruction of roadways, including curbs and drainage improvements
  • Sidewalk Enhancements: Widened and resurfaced sidewalks with improved pedestrian crossings

These improvements aim to create a safer, more attractive, and accessible downtown environment.

Construction Impacts and Travel Information

During construction, residents, businesses, and visitors can expect:
Road Closures and Detours: Temporary closures and detours in active work zones

  • Limited Parking: Reduced on-street parking in construction areas; alternative parking options will be signposted
  • Pedestrian Access: Sidewalks will remain open wherever possible
  • Business Access: Efforts will be made to maintain access to businesses and residences to the greatest extent possible

We encourage everyone to plan ahead, follow posted signage, and allow extra travel time when visiting downtown Paris.

Support for Local Businesses

Navacon Construction Inc. is committed to supporting the downtown business community throughout the Downtown Dig. In collaboration with the County of Brant and the Downtown Paris BIA, we are:

  • Maintaining Access: Ensuring safe and convenient pedestrian access to all storefronts
  • Coordinating Work: Working with business owners to coordinate and minimize disruption.
  • Encouraging Support: Promoting the importance of shopping local and supporting downtown businesses.

Your continued patronage is vital to the success of this project and the vitality of downtown Paris.

Community Engagement and Participation

Community input has been essential in shaping the look and feel of the renewed downtown. In late 2024, residents and business owners were invited to participate in selecting new streetscape features, including streetlight fixtures, benches, and bike racks. Over 700 votes were cast, and the winning designs will be implemented in the upcoming phases.

We thank everyone who contributed ideas and voted on these important design elements. Your involvement helps us create a downtown that’s both functional and uniquely Paris.

Will businesses remain open during construction?

Yes, all downtown businesses will remain open. We are working to maintain access and encourage everyone to continue supporting local merchants.

Detour routes will be clearly marked.
